Digital technology is finding a position in nearly everyone’s lives.  Digital cameras and digital photography are one of those formats that are becoming more and more popular with every day that passes.  For many people, a main reason for digital photography is that it eliminates the need for film processing.  You save money in both film purchasing and film developing.  You no longer need to pay for unwanted photos.  Photos can be viewed without delay on the display screen of the camera.  Because there is no processing involved with digital photography, you don’t need to worry about dangerous chemicals ending up in our water supply.  There are no negatives to save and sort through.  Another big advantage of digital photographs is the ease with which they can be edited.  Also, many digital cameras have video components with audio soundtrack as with greenHDcameras.  greenHDcameras offers you cameras with high definition video.  The result is stunning HD video and gorgeous photos!

Each camera is equipped with either a 2GB SDHD or 4GB SDHD memory card.   You specify which card you would like during the ordering process based on your video needs.  If you plan to do mostly videotaping, you will want to upgrade your memory card to a 4 GB card.  The difference is $1.00 per camera and you get twice the storage for video and pictures.  This will give your “ shutterbugs” plenty of video time.

To give you an example of what a 2GB memory card will hold for the12MP camera.  A 2GB card will take approximately 537 pictures. For the same 12MP camera, a 4GB card will take 1,066 pictures.  The actual recording length will be variable based on the video’s compression/quality setting and type of subject being captured.  Our memory cards will give an average 3.8 hours to 7.6 hours of video recording.  As with any battery-powered video, battery life is always the limiting factor.  If videos are planned to be lengthy or multiple, we highly recommend renting a battery charger and/or AA lithium batteries.  Most people will take some combination of pictures and video.

greenHDcameras tip** Because you are able to get up to 4GB of memory in each camera, the tip is not to delete the pictures on the camera while you’re at your event.  Because there’s no film to develop, no price to pay for bad shots and no penalty for taking pictures, you are increasing your odds of getting a masterpiece of a shot by taking as many pictures as possible.  Deleting right on the camera takes time while at your event.  You run the risk of missing your shot because you’re reviewing the last shot on the tiny screen to see if it was acceptable.  Also, if you’re in a hurry, you run the risk of deleting as good shot by accident.  You can always delete later, upon review!

In conclusion, the digital disposable cameras are trying to compete with the regular disposable market and the regular digital market but they just don’t seem to give you what you need in a digital camera at this point.  They are too limiting and in some cases not even a digital camera, just a more expensive film camera with software.

Wolverine FlashPac

The Wolverine FlashPac is a battery powered hard drive with a built in card reader to enable you to transfer the contents of a memory card to the hard drive.  It’s the essence of a single function device because it copies memory cards to the hard disk. It does the job very well but it doesn’t display the images or display the names of the stored files. Of course you can connect the drive to a PC via a USB 2.0 interface and do anything you can normally do with hard disk data files, such as move, copy, view, rename and delete them. When attached to a PC it’s simply another system hard drive.

As shown in the illustration, the Wolverine Flashpac is quite small. It measures 4.6 x 3.1 x 0.9 inches (116 x 78 x 23mm) and weighs only 8 oz. The user interface is as simple as the functionality. There are two buttons and an LCD display. One button turns the Flashpac on and at this point the LCD first displays the Wolverine logo and current firmware version, and then displays the battery charge level and the amount of free space on the disk.

The second button copies the contents of a memory card to the hard disk. While this is in progress the LCD displays the type of memory card inserted, the name of the hard disk directory being written as well as the percent complete for the current file transfer and the total number of files transferred in this session. When it’s finished it will display a confirmation message and the Flashpac powers itself down after 90 seconds to conserve battery power.

The Flashpac has native support for seven types of memory cards: CompactFlash Type I, CompactFlash Type II, Sony Memory Stick, IBM Microdrive, Multimedia Card, Secure Digital card (SD and SDHC), SmartMedia card, XD Picture Card. When connected to a PC it appears as three drives. One is the 80GB hard drive, one is the CF card reader and the other is the SD/MS/MMC/SM/XD card reader, so you can use the Flashpac as a simple card reader to transfer images to a PC directly from the memory cards, as well as from the internal hard drive.

The Wolverine Flashpac uses a standard Li-Ion rechargeable battery. It’s an NP-60, as used in many Fuji, Kodak, HP and Casio digital cameras. It is user replaceable, though you have to remove the front of the case (4 screws) to access and replace the battery.  The Flashpac will run for about 90-95 minutes on a full charge, which means you can download six or seven 1GB CF cards before the internal battery power runs out.  Wolverine claim that a set of 4 AA alkaline battery will recharge the internal battery 2 or 3 times, so with the internal battery fully charged and a set of fresh AA cells, you should be able to transfer in excess of 20GB of data from memory cards without needing an external power source.
