How to Take Great Photos & Videos

The Kodak point-and-shoot digital cameras we rent are very easy to use.   The information described below is general information regarding their use as well as ways to optimize your photos.  For additional information and instructions, please visit: www.kodak.com.

After turning on the digital camera, the time and date should be set.  If the date and time are not set, please go the above website for instructions.

BATTERIES
We provide 2 sets of fully charged AA rechargeable batteries; chargers can also be rented to assure your cameras don’t lose power during your event. If more batteries are required, we recommend the Lithium AA batteries.  We do not recommend alkaline batteries they have a very short life.

TAKING A PHOTO
Each digital camera will come pre-set on Auto mode.  If you are interested in changing the scene mode, there are many modes to select from.  Set the appropriate mode (nearly always the camera icon on the mode dial), Press the Shutter button halfway to focus and set exposure, when the Ready light turns green press the Shutter button down completely.

TAKING A HIGH DEFINITION VIDEO
Set the mode dial to Video.  Press the Shutter button completely down and release.  To stop recording, Press and release the Shutter button.

TO USE THE ZOOM
Press the telephoto (T) button to obtain a closer picture of the subject up to 24”.  Press the wide angle (W) no closer than 8” from the subject.

USING THE FLASH
greenHDcamera.com believe the flash should be used as infrequently as possible.  It should only be used at night or indoors. As a rule of thumb, the flash is only good for illumination of up to approximately 10 feet, a bit further with the wide angle.  Consider using the red eye reduction button for the flash.  For further information see the above web site.

DELETING PICTURES/VIDEOS
We highly recommend that pictures or videos are not deleted during the event. Often times desired photos are accidently deleted, or during the deletion process, subscribers miss taking important photos/videos that would be desired. greenHDcameras.com supplies a large volume of memory so subscribers can just take more photos and then if desired, go back after the event to delete undesired pictures/videos.

SUGGESTIONS FOR EVEN GREATER PHOTOS OR VIDEOS

OBTAINING THE PICTURE

  • Fill the LCD with the subject – The subject is usually the object of interest so you can either walk closer to the subject or use the zoom feature on the digital camera to make sure you have filled the LCD with your subject
  • Have something going in the picture – Add a person, action, animal or other item into the landscape or event backdrop scene to make it more interesting.
  • Draw the eye to the subject – Oftentimes a diagonal leads your eye to the subject.
  • Offset the subject to the side of the photo – Oftentimes off-centering will create a superior picture.
  • Watch out for the background – Make sure there is nothing in the background to interfere with the subject.
  • Change your angle – Take a picture from above or below the subject to create a different angle.

TAKING THE PICTURE

  • Half press the shutter button – This is the most important photo point of all!

TIPS

  • To avoid a lengthy time between depressing the shutter button and the taking of the picture (shutter lag), half press the shutter button.  You will hear a beep and a focus grid will appear on the LCD.  The camera then figures the focus and exposure in advance.  Keep the button half pressed until the moment of the desired picture, then release.  This process will eliminate shutter lag.
  • If a force fill is required because of lighting or shadowing this can only be used in P/M mode.  It will not work in the Auto flash mode.
  • Avoid the flash if possible, if not consider the red eye reduction  (note*** remember there will be 2 flashes and the photo is NOT obtained until the second flash so hold the shutter button down longer);
  • Don’t use the flash if the subject is not within the specified distance; and
  • Remember…… Don’t delete pictures, Take More!

ENJOY YOUR PROFESSIONAL QUALITY PHOTOS!
